Patricia, the inventor of Supermarket Smarty said she felt overwhelmed by all the nutrition information and advice she was hearing and needed an easy system to remember all the healthy foods to include in her and her family’s diet every week. To solve her problem, Patricia utilized her professional experience as a market researcher and adjunct university professor to collect and organize the nutritional data she was using. She then simplified it into a ‘crib sheet’ that eventually became her shopping list. After repeated use and wear, Patricia decided to have it laminated for durability and that later it evolved into a dry erase format with shopping tips, a coupon pocket, meal planner and a magnifying lens to help read fine print on packaging and nutrition labels.
